Thinking about roller blinds for your home or office? Here are 4 things you should consider before you buy!

At work and home, one of the most commonly used window finishes are roller blinds. But here are 4 things you may not know about the humble roller blind.

Have you ever heard of double roller blinds?

Double roller blinds are often called Day and Night blinds. They are a great option for bedrooms, windows that are close to the street or let in a lot of glare.

A double roller blind uses two different fabrics – one that’s sheer for privacy or to reduce glare without eliminating the view and another that uses a blockout fabric. You can achieve a rather dramatic look by using strongly contrasting coloured fabrics for each blind or simply use one colour for a cohesive look.

Your roller blind can use the same fabric as your curtains

Many brands of roller blinds look similar but you can customise your roller blinds with curtain fabric bonded to the blind. Not all fabrics are suitable for this use but we are happy to provide guidance.

One of the biggest advantages of bonded roller blinds is their ability to provide the individuality of curtains with the compact size of a blind. Some clients choose to match their roller blind with their curtains for a stylish, coordinated look.

Beware of lightweight fittings

Have you ever experienced noisy roller blinds that bang against the window frame with the slightest breeze? That happens when the bottom balance rail is lightweight and cheaply made. When you choose your custom-made roller blinds from Cosmostyle, we always use top quality fittings that are robust, longwearing and feature a soundproofing bumper.

You can motorise your roller blind

While you can still buy spring-loaded roller blinds, we don’t recommend them. Instead, we offer the choice of chain controlled or motorised operation. It may even be possible to integrate our motorised roller blinds into your smart home wiring system. We’ll advise what’s possible when we come to measure and quote.
